All about the mascots…DARWIN

Why does Darwin wave?

CharlesBearded dragons, like Darwin, have this very odd behavior where they will wave at you or other bearded dragons. Waving behavior seems strange from a lizard, so we investigated why they do it.

According to our research, both sexes will raise one arm and hold it stationary or slowly wave it in circles when faced with another lizard bigger than itself. It’s the lizard equivalent of waving a white flag  – a signal that the lizard is harmless and doesn’t want a fight. Still, it’s kind of foolish looking right?
